This is an essay Chauncey wrote to graduate. It shows just how great of a person he was, and I love it!
Fire Fighting
My one true love in life is fire fighting. I love being
that hero that gets to save the family and become a great hero everyday. I love having the satisfaction of knowing that I
saved someone's life and that because of me they can live to see another day and spend more time with their families. It isn't
their time to go, so I guess that I am one of God's messengers that have to make sure that everyday , because of stupid things
people do, God's little children don't get hurt. I am here to make sure that little babies grow up with mommies and daddies,
and brothers and sisters. Some say that I have a great ability to be so courageous that I can run into a burning building
and carry out a family, but to me it is just another day in my life. I enjoy the fact that I get to be considered a hero even
though I have done so many things wrong in my past. As you may already know, I have been a bad little boy and done a lot of
things I never should have. So, I guess that, in a way, I am making up for all of the things that I have done wrong in my
life so no one sees me as how I used to be, but how I am now, and how I have changed. I want people to see that I am not a
misguided teenager on a binge to piss off the whole world, but that I do about others than myself and that I am a good person.
People say that you can be the worst of people, yet have the best effect. So, what I am trying to say is that I am not an
angel from up above that was sent to watch over people, but I am here to make sure that people can live happily and safely
and that people still have a fighting chance.
